The ALSS is calling for nominations from students for the prestigious teaching award for adjunct faculty. Adjunct faculty, who are often busy practitioners themselves, donate their valuable time and effort to teaching. They are instrumental to making many course offerings possible. Faculty members are NOT eligible for this award. Winners of the award in the past 3 years are also ineligible (see form). The award is adjudicated by a committee of students. The Board of Directors of the Canadian Defence Lawyers Foundation has announced the inauguration of its annual Canadian Law Student Essay Prize. Students are invited to write a paper on the topic, as follows: A paper relevant to the multi-faceted interaction between insurance coverage and tort claims, which should include a discussion of issues arising in Insurance Law, Tort Law and/or Civil Procedure of a Province or the Federal Court as it pertains to Tort or Insurance Litigation. Along with the Dean’s Office, the Allard Law Students’ Society will be hosting Alan Treleaven from the Law Society of British Columbia to speak with students and answer questions about the Federation of Law Societies of Canada’s proposed National Assessment on Wednesday, January 13 at 12:30 pm in Room 106. Immediately after this consultation, the Allard Law Students’ Society will be holding a student referendum. Lunch will be provided. The ALSS was tasked with submitting input to the Faculty Advisory Committee regarding student interests in respect of the Deans 2016 Strategic Plan. This initial submission is one of several steps in the planning process. The ALSS encourages students to contact any member of the ALSS exec with comments or feedback.
